The Making of Out of Bounds
Meet the New Writer
Introducing Wayward Books

This issue of The Independent Gay Writer is the largest yet, and it came together rather quickly toward the end of the submissions process. Here's what's in store for you this issue:

  • The authors of the new novel Out of Bounds submitted an article about their experience with writing and getting their sports novel published through Xlibris.
  • A new author contacted me about his book, The Hunt, which has recently been published by 1st Books.
  • A publisher from England wrote to ask me for advice on how she might better promote her gay titles here in the United States. As a result of her query, I called upon some of the people who have been doing book reviews for the newsletter to contact this publisher, and they did. Tony Heyes reviews Paper Flowers, and we introduce Wayward Books, as a publisher dedicated to gay fiction.
  • Andrew Barriger, who has become best known here for his Fairy Factoid submitted a review for Alex Sanchez's Rainbow High—a sequel to Rainbow Boys.
  • William Maltese (the prolific writer who has given us some interesting articles in previous issues) reviews two books—The Acorn Stories and Common Sons.
  • Gary Phillips reviews Rainbow Boys.
  • Tony Heyes, has submitted two reviews for this issue, one on the (in)famous Richard Chamberlain and one of Wayward Books' titles.
  • Jeremy Laugan reviews Andrew Barriger's Finding Peace, as well as The Boyfriend.
In all, as I have indicated, quite a large and eclectic mix of articles and book reviews.
Volume One, Issue 13, will be published at the end of November 2003. Currently taking submissions. We would like more real-life "coming out" essays, from 300 - 500 words, along with a one-paragraph bio and a 300 dpi digital photo in .jpeg format.
